| Massage The manipulation of the superficial tissues of the human body with the hand, foot, arm, or elbow, whether or not such manipulation is aided by hydrotherapy, including colonic irrigation, or thermal therapy; any electrical or mechanical device; or the application to the human body of a chemical or herbal preparation. -Florida Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance: Chapter 480 Massage is manual soft tissue manipulation, and includes holding, causing movement, and/or applying pressure to the body. Therapy is a series of actions aimed at achieving or increasing health and wellness. Manual means by use of hand or body. -American Massage Therapy Association Basic Types of Massage: Therapeutic Touch is a very light pressure massage that incorporates the philosophy of energy work. The therapist works with the energy field or aura, balancing out the client’s energy. Deep Tissue Massage is more often used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct pressure or friction applied across the muscle grain. This technique affects the deepest layers of muscle in the body. Trigger Point Therapy (TPT) Trigger points are tender congested areas in the muscle that radiate pain into adjoining areas. Trigger points will not dissipate on their own; however, significant relief results when trigger points are treated. Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is another type of TPT and is muscle-specific focused on pain relief. Other Modalities – (Call for availability)
